DIRECTIONS:
Wash and
completely dry cylinder glass vase.
Choose a
stencil with a design that you like. Keep in mind that the vase is
a curved surface and how your design will look. The sample used an
Iris border (#W8011 Wild Iris from StenSource). You will do one
section of the vase at a time.
Trace the
stencil design onto the etch mask sheet. Cut design from the
stencil sheet leaving at least a 1.5” border area all around.
Position the stenciled design onto the vase. Remove the backing
and adhere to the vase.
Use a swivel
blade craft knife to cut out the design from the mask. The swivel
blade will give you cleaner cuts, especially around curves and
tight corners. Remove the cut out mask areas, exposing the glass.
Because the
cylinder vase has a curved surface, you will want to create
“walls” around the design to keep the crème from spreading
onto other surface areas. Use the edge of the etchmask to form the
walls. Lift the edge of the mask up about 1”. Fold about ½”
over, adhesive surfaces together leaving the edge free. Replace
and adhere edge to surface, creating the wall. Repeat with all the
edges until walls enclose design.
Following the
etchall crème directions, etch the design on the vase. In
general, you will spread the etchall crème over the design and
leave on for 15 minutes. When ready, you will remove the crème
with the squeegee and return to the bottle. Etchall crème is
reusable. You will then rinse the etched surface with water to
remove any remaining etch crème.
Repeat process
until your vase is etched with your desired design.
For a candleholder – place colored marbles in the vase for accent. Place glass hanging votive holder in vase. Place a matching votive candle or add water and a floating candle.
