Small Stencil design
DIRECTIONS:
Wash and
completely dry wine glass.
Choose a
stencil with a design that you like. Keep in mind that the vase is
a curved surface and how your design will look. The sample used a
small Hibiscus stencil. You will do one section of the wine glass
at a time.
Trace just
small parts of the design at a time onto the etchmask. For
example, just trace the flower, then parts of the stem and
leaves.. Cut design from the etchmask, leaving at least a 1.5”
border area all around. Position one of the stenciled etchmask
onto the glass. Remove the backing and adhere to the vase. Smooth
out any air bubbles.
Use a swivel
blade craft knife to cut out the design from the mask. The swivel
blade will give you cleaner cuts, especially around curves and
tight corners. Remove the cut out mask areas, exposing the glass.
Because the
wine glass has a curved surface, you will want to create
“walls” around the design to keep the crème from spreading
onto other surface areas. Use the edge of the etchmask to form the
walls. Lift the edge of the mask up about 1”. Fold about ½”
over, adhesive surfaces together leaving the edge free. Replace
and adhere edge to surface, creating the wall. Repeat with all the
edges until walls enclose design.
Following
the etchall crème directions, etch the design on the vase. In
general, you will spread the etchall crème over the design and
leave on for 15 minutes. When ready, you will remove the crème
with the squeegee and return to the bottle. etchall crème is
reusable. You will then rinse the etched surface with water to
remove any remaining etch crème. Wipe glass dry.
