Note:
Knowledge of making a Hearty Clay Rose Petal is helpful.
Directions
First,
you will need to mix the clay into two different shades of green.
Using the Hearty Clay Color scale, mix clay into Cobalt Green:
“I” of yellow, “H” of blue and “A” of black. Mix clay
thoroughly and set aside.
Next mix clay into Chrome Green:
“I” of yellow, “C” of red and “E” of blue.
To
Make the Lettuce
Using the green clays, you will make the head of lettuce. This will be
like making a rose except we will start with the outer leaves and work
towards the middle.
For
the outer leaves layer, Measure 4 balls of “F” in the Cobalt green.
Roll each ball into a teardrop shape and spread in the palm of your hand
like a rose petal. Each petal does not have to be perfect, holes are good.
It will look more like garden lettuce. Gather the bottom of each petal.
Place all four petals together in a circular design with the bunched
bottoms forming the center.
For
the next layer of leaves, mix “C” of Cobalt green and “D” of
Chrome green together four times to make 4 balls of the mixture. Roll each
ball into to teardrop shape and spread in the palm of your hand like a
rose petal. Gather the bottom of each petal. Place each leaf on top of the
first layer of leaves, positioning them in between the larger leaves.
For
the top layer of leaves, make 3 balls of “D” in the Chrome green clay.
Roll each ball into a teardrop shape and spread in the palm of your hand
like a rose petal. Gather the bottom of each petal. Place the 3 petals on
top of the second layer of leaves, positioning them in between the larger
leaves. Push the center of the clay in slightly, forming a “bowl” like
head of lettuce.
To
Make the Bunny
Measure
2 balls of “D” in the white clay. Roll each ball into a teardrop shape
about ½” long. Slightly flatten to make the feet, set aside. Make some
pink clay for the footpads. Mix “A” of red and “I” of white.
Measure
out a ball of “A” in the pink clay. Divide in half and roll into 2
small balls. Place one ball on the narrow bottom of each foot and flatten
for the large footpad. Measure out another ball of “A” in the pink
clay. Divide into 6 portions. Roll into small balls and place 3 each on
the wider top of each foot and flatten for the smaller footpads.
Measure
a ball of “H” in white clay. Roll into a ball and place inside of the
“bowl” of lettuce for the bunny’s body. Place a foot on either side
of the lower part of the body. Have feet coming out over lettuce leaves.
Roll a ball of “C” in white clay. Place on the center upper third of
the body for the bunny’s tail. Add tacky glue to any of the pieces if
necessary.
