Honu Lauhala Basket

SUPPLIES:

4” Round Lauhala Basket  (77873372)
9 x 12” Apple Green Felt
2 – 10 mm Moving Eyes
Christmas Green Acrylic paint
Satin Varnish
Sponge Brush
Black fine tip permanent marker
12” of ribbon (approx. 1”) for bow
Fiberfill
Low Temp Glue Gun & glue sticks

DIRECTIONS:  

Paint the outside of both pieces of the lauhala basket with the Christmas green acrylic paint. Let dry. When completely dry, seal with a coat of satin varnish and let dry.

Trace and cut out the pieces from felt according to the patterns.

Glue the 2 head pieces together around the edges, leaving a small opening. Stuff head lightly with fiberfill and glue opening closed. Place basket cover onto the basket bottom. Position head onto the side of the basket cover and glue in place. Glue the moving eyes to the head. Draw a smile with the black permanent marker. Make a bow with the ribbon and glue under the honu’s neck.

Take the 8 foot pieces and glue pairs together to form the 4 feet. Position the feet around the bottom of the basket and glue in place. Glue the tail piece to the basket on the opposite end of the head.

Take the shell pieces and arrange on the top of the basket cover. Glue in place.
