Directions
First,
you will need to fan-fold the washi paper to determine the cutting
lines.
For
the Small Egg:
Take
the washi paper and fold in half lengthwise. Crease well. Fold in half
again and crease well. Fold in half again and crease well. Fold in half
one more time and crease well. Unfold the washi paper. There should be
16 sections. Fold the washi paper in half widthwise and unfold. On the
unprinted side of the washi paper, use a pencil and ruler to draw in all
of the fold lines.
Measure
¼” out from both sides of the middle line. Draw line in with the
pencil. This will be known as line B for both sides. Mark about ½”
from both lengthwise edges of the washi paper. Draw the line in on both
sides. This will be line A for both sides.
Along the edges, find the mid-point between each of the 16
sections. Draw a point from line A to the center point edge for each
section. It should look like a picket fence on both edges of the paper
(fig. 1).
Cut
out each of the points on both sides. Cut apart each section down to
line B on both sides.
For
the Large Egg:
Fold
the washi paper in half lengthwise and crease well. Fold in half again
and crease well. Now, fold the washi paper into thirds and crease
well. Fold in half one more time and crease well. It’s best to keep
the sections to about ¼” or smaller for a neater looking egg. Unfold
the washi paper and fold in half widthwise. Unfold and draw in all of
the fold lines with the pencil on the unprinted side. There should be 24
sections.
Measure
½” out from both sides of the
middle line. Draw line in with pencil. This will be line B for both
sides. Mark about 1” from both lengthwise edges of the washi paper.
Draw the line in on both sides. This will be line A for both sides.
Along the edges, find the mid-point of each section. Draw a point from
line A to the center point edge for each section. It should look like a
picket fence on each side.
Cut
out each of the points on both sides. Cut apart each section down to
line B on both sides.
Gluing
Washi Paper onto the Egg
Position
the washi paper onto the egg. Starting from one end, spread a little
glue onto the unprinted side of the washi paper. Glue the points down on
each end and smooth out the paper. Slowly glue each section to the egg,
layering each point over each other in a swirl pattern on the top and
bottom of the egg. Let dry.
Brush
on a coat of either satin or glossy varnish to complete your egg.
